Schools Coral Reef Project

11 September 2021

Courtney Mattison

During the Summer term, a number of schools from in and around Bicester took part in a clay tile project for Bicester Festival. The children were asked to create a clay tile with a coral theme.

To begin with, the children learnt about the artist Courtney Mattison who has created a ceramic artwork to show how the warming of the oceans is bleaching and killing the coral.

Each child then created a clay tile with a coral theme. These were kindly fired in a kiln by The Phoenix Studio in Towersey who were very impressed by the standard of the children’s work.

Once fired the children have painted their tiles thinking about how they can show the effect of global warming on the oceans.

These finished tiles will be displayed in an exhibition for Bicester Festival at OYAP during the 11th and 25th September.

We are thrilled with the finished tiles and thank the schools and their children for all their hard work. We look forward to being about to share their talent with you at the exhibition.
